i feel like yuck

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

literally, that’s what i feel like.  while i’m all kinds of not energetic i’m cleaning out the freezer of leftovers.  it was vegetable soup earlier.  it’ll be chili later.  a check of the freezer revealed that i had 2 containers of chili from 2 different batches of chili in the freezer.  so i pulled out the older container.  i’m hoping that it’s from the last super spicy batch i made (since i make it different everytime).  super spicy would be good.  it would be very sinus clearing.  i have a salmon fillet in the fridge that i thawed yesterday, but i’m just not in the mood for any real cooking.

and of course, with illness comes the craving for kfc.  i don’t know WHY, but but i do.  last few times i didn’t get any kfc :(  maybe this time i’ll be able to get some.

chicken soup…

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

i need a chicken, some celery and some carrots.  so i can make a big pot of chicken soup and make myself feel better.

soup is good food.  i wonder if i have any soup in the freezer.  i might have some vegetable soup i made awhile back… that would be good.  *i go check now*

YEP.  vegetable soup is on the stove now.  interestingly, it looks like it settled and separated a little in the freezer.  the veggies were all at the bottom of the container, w/ the tomato sauce from the base around and above them and the vegetable broth on top of that.  it was like a vegetable soup parfait or something. lol  i’m sure it’ll be fine once it’s heated up… it’s a poor substitute for chicken soup, but it’ll do in a pinch i suppose.

oh for the love of *cough hack retch*

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

and now i have the cough. with many thanks to my little man who cheerfully passed it on. he who is now hyper and happy and not coughing at all. i did learn something last night that could have helped shorten this illness and prevent me from getting sick. apparently he can take robitussin. for some reason i assumed i had to get a childrens formula for him. but i was reading the bottle to see how much i needed… and there it was ages 2-6 1/2 tsp. damn. well, it’ll save me some money in the future. i just have to make sure to do extra sweet koolade next time he’s sick cause damn is the taste of that stuff harsh (he only takes liquid medicines in his drink). so now i’m on robitussin and decongestants. and feeling all kinds of miserable.

flavor of love girls charm school

Friday, April 20th, 2007

i confess, i watched both seasons of flavor of love.  and i enjoyed them both.  the show cracked me up. watching how stupid these girls behaved in this effort to “win” a man most of them knew nothing about.  the drama, the stupidity, the cattiness and bitchiness… god was it good for a laugh.

so now we have some of the girls from both seasons going to “charm school.”  i’ve seen part of an episode so far.  i’m watching the 1st episode at the moment.  i happened to catch it from the beginning.  so far i’m amused.  i get the feeling that i’m going to be more amused by this than flavor of love.

and speaking of flavor of love, at some point the version of the show w/ bret michaels will be airing… i’m so very disappointed that bret did that… and highly amused.  i can’t wait to see what kind of girls they got on the show.  there are so many ways it could go.  i want to see how many of the girls on the show are trapped in the 80’s… you know, the kind of girls that make you wanna walk up to them and say “honey, 1985 called… your day pass was cancelled.”

blog love

Friday, April 20th, 2007

posting a little blog love here… i’ve spent about 20 minutes checking out this blog and i digs it. i love a good mommy blog… being a mommy myself i guess we’ve got something in common *g* tho it would seem that i have significantly fewer children (since i only have “child” never picked up the “ren” part, lol).

oh so tasty!

Friday, April 20th, 2007

ok, so a few days ago i did some chicken breasts for dinner (boneless/skinless).  i marinated them allday in the juice of 1 lemon and 1 lime w/ a dash of garlic salt and pepper for good measure.

then i wrapped em in foil on a bed of chopped onion (just a little — 1 thin slice chopped per breast) with about 2 tbsp of “religious experience” mild salsa on top.  and baked em till they were done.  twas delish.

today i chopped up the one that was leftover and mixed it with a little mayo and emeril’s kicked up horseradish mustard to make a nice chicken salad.  it’s so good i’m eating it plain — i don’t want to share it with bread.  this would need special bread to do it justice.

home again…

Friday, April 20th, 2007

after waking up from a nap with a fever yesterday, and all the puking as a result of coughing too hard… gage gets to stay home from school yet again.  as much as i love him, and i love spending the time with him, that means this week has been a complete bust as far as productivity.  additionally it means he missed the field trip to the elementary school, and he’s missed his meeting with the girl from jfk who is working with the autism program he’ll be in when he starts kindergarden.  i guess he’ll get to meet her next week when we go in for our meeting.  and i’m sure some arrangement for a trip to the elementary school will probably be made.  if i remember the “proceedure” right, he’s supposed to take a couple of trips before the school year lets out.

the writer’s idea book

Friday, April 20th, 2007

i read this awhile back, and was planning on doing all of the writing prompts. since i tend to do more writing at the computer than w/ pen and paper, i figured what the hell, i’ll blog the prompts.

page 8, 1st prompt

list the positive messages you have received about writing or about any creative undertaking. what did people say? how did they say it? then write about times when you felt good about your writing, such as when a great idea zipped thru your mind or when you finished a project that turned out well. keep these messages and memories handy. when you’re feeling stale or want to berate yourself about your work, read about what you’ve done in the past and know you can do it again.

In high school, when I was in Creative Writing, we had to sit in a circle and go around the room and read what we wrote for the assigned project. After we read, everyone else would write their honest opinions, criticisms and general comments on anonymous slips of paper and they would be passed around to us. I never received a negative comment on anything I wrote in that class.

When we were discussing what kind of content to put into his fanclub newsletter, Rikki called me a “creative genius” and then indicated what kind of writing and articles he wanted me to contribute.

My friends and family have always received my writing warmly and enthusiastically — but they might be a little biased.

Woody has always enjoyed my writing, he’s always been honest about it, what he liked what he didn’t like. He’s always encouraged me, and noticed when I stopped writing.

one for the money - part 2

Friday, April 20th, 2007

so i’ve finished one for the money.  it was good.  not nearly as funny as i’d been lead to believe.  that’s ok tho.  it made up for it by being good.  part of the story was predictable, but it ended with a nice twist.  the first third of the book wasn’t that good… i guess it was a “setup period” but it was very dry.  mostly informative.  mildly entertaining.  after that, tho it got very interesting.  exciting in some areas.

and this was my 4th book in my 1st in 10 series challenge… not my 3rd as i previously thought.

damn!

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

gage had a good day.  he was bright and energetic.  there was just the coughing leading to puking problem.  i didn’t think much of it, to be honest.  everything he threw up was mucus based, so it struck me as very post nasal drip and/or swallowing whatever he coughed up related.  he threw up absolutely no food today.

at 4-4:30, he climbed into my lap, wrapped his arms around me and fell asleep.  it was very cute, and i figured he was just brushing off the last little bit of being sick.  i put him in our bed and he covered himself up, rolled over and fell right back to sleep.

he woke up an hour or so ago with a fever again.  the thermometer got to 99.7 before he yanked it out from under his arm and threw it.  i’m gonna try taking it again a little later.  maybe he was just so warm because he just woke up and he’d been under the comforter… who knows.

so much to do…

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

i’m hoping gage decides he wants to nap.  i can’t clean the living room while he’s awake — he throws a fit when i pick anything up (since the bulk of what’s scattered around the room are his crayons, video cases and toys).  he was half passed out a few minutes ago, and then he decided it’s time to play again.

i also need to do more ebay listing.  doing it with gage about is difficult.  he decides he wants the things i’m trying to sell.  i was going to list a frog candle holder, and gage took it before i could, to use as a personal cup holder.   eh, he can have it.  it’s cute seeing him carry that around the house w/ a sippy cup in it.  also gotta label a few things for shipping from the last round.  waiting on some shipping supplies.  blah.

don’t think we’re walking up to 7-11 today.  he’s coughing and retching a lot.  he also won’t let me put pants on him.  it’s hard enough to get a pull up on him today.  trying to put pants on him has gotten me kicked in the face twice.  fortunately i saw it coming, so he just kinda clipped me.

*pout*

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

the fever is gone.  this is good.  but the cough continues.  i was gonna try sending him to school today… i went to get him dressed.  he sat on my lap and pulled my arms around him… then he had a coughing fit and threw up all over both of our legs.

so he’s home today.

hopefully he’ll be able to go tomorrow.  i think the cough is from post nasal drip.  i’m thinking maybe some benadryl might help.  perhaps spring allergies or something like that.

more bedtime cuteness…

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

gage decided he wanted to go to bed.  so he came up and told me “is ton” which translates to “it’s time.”

then he took me into his room, settled himself under the covers and said “goo-niy” (good night), “tweet tweem” (sweet dreams), “i yuff you, bay ale” (i love you, *my nickname for him*) and then he puckered up for a kiss.

sometimes it’s just too much cuteness to bear.

chicken contemplation…

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

chicken for dinner.  i have boneless skinless chicken (thighs).  i’m thinking of doing some kind of stuffing with the mushrooms that are a few days from being… well… not good for anything.  seared then baked… and perhaps a gravy or sauce to accompany.  i have no idea why.  i’m just in the mood to cook something groovy.

i’m also thinking i should start contemplating submissions for the chicken recipe contest now.  i know they probably won’t be due till like october or something, but last year i only gave myself 2 months or so to come up with recipes.

one of the recipes i submitted last year: southwest chili con pollo

1 onion, diced
1-1/5 lb boneless skinless chicken thighs, diced
1 c. water
28 oz can crushed tomatoes
2-4oz cans diced mild green chiles
15 oz can corn, drained
15 oz can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
15 oz can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 tsp oregano
2 tsp paprika
1 tbs chili powder
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tbs white wine vinegar

in a large stock pot, combine chicken and onion and cook until chicken is cooked thru.

add water, tomatoes, chiles, corn and beans, stir and bring to a simmer.

stir in oregano, paprika, chili powder, pepper, garlic salt and vinegar, bring to a boil. reduce heat and simmer uncovered stirring occasionally for about 20 minutes.

serve over rice.
