stuff…

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

walked up to 7-11 earlier with gage… thought it would be good to see how he does. he wasn’t fond of crossing the streets… and on the way back he kept trying ot just sit down and chill. which was kinda funny. he did pretty good tho.

been looking for information online about grants… and now i’m thinking books are the way to go. every website that supposedly has any information on grants wants you to pay for the information. so once gage’s summer school starts, maybe i’ll walk up to the library and see what they have in the reference section. not that i’m looking for a “free ride” just something to help get us into a standing position.

gage has managed to corral ziggy again. which isn’t an easy thing to do…

I Need Ink!

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

My ink cartridges are in bad shape. The color cartridge died a long time ago. If I take it out and shake it, I can get muted color on whatever I’m printing. The black cartridge is almost gone, it’s really just a matter of time. Have you seen the prices for inkjet cartridges at the store??? To replace mine it’ll cost me about $50 for the pair, and that’s to say nothing of a photo cartridge if I choose to go that route! So I checked out Officesupplyoutfitters.com. They’ve got printer cartridges, copier supplies, fax ribbon, all that good stuff that you need in your office. Know what I found? $20 in savings on my ink cartridges! At least now I know where to buy my cartridges when I have the dough. I could buy all 3 cartridges on their site for the same amount that I’d pay for just the color and black cartridges at any store. I choose saving money.

favorite movies…

Monday, May 21st, 2007

ok, so i wasn’t tagged to do this, but i just felt the need.

i love movies… and i’m more appreciative since meeting woody of a really well put together movie. so here are a couple of my favorite flicks…

the exorcist — color me crazy, but this movie cracks me up. it’s one of my favorite films of all time. i can watch it over and over again.
legend — i’ve loved this since i was a kid. woody bought me the special edition a few years ago, with the directors cut… it’s a very different movie. the plot and story are the same… there’s just more. i love it even more now.
fried green tomatoes — it doesn’t show often, but i AM capable of being a girly girl. this is my favorite chick flick.
mr. holland’s opus — maybe it’s because i’m a musician… maybe it’s because i’ve known american sign language since my freshman year of high school… maybe it’s because the teacher who touched my life most profoundly was a high school music teacher… but this movie moves me like no other.
the godfather — what? it has to be on the list. it’s required. not really, i just really love the movie. i even find myself watching when it’s on spiketv edited with full commercial interruptions. it’s not as fantastic as it is uncut… but still good.

gage is cat obsessed.  on one hand it’s very sweet.  he wants to hold and pet and cuddle with the cats.  unfortunately, they don’t think it’s sweet and keep getting away from him and hiding.  which makes him cry and throw a bit of a temper tantrum.  i reached the point where i couldn’t take it anymore last night and started catching the cats and bringing them to him to calm him down.  they weren’t pleased.  i’m not sure why the sudden interest in the cats.

gage’s last day of school was today.  he came home with a “yearbook” that the teachers put together.  it’s centered specifically around gage, pictures of him throughout the year, incuding on the fieldtrips they took.  it’s so cute.

he’s started a new game… he  comes up to me and takes my hand and then has me chase him into his bedroom where he throws himself down on the floor and rolls around saying “tickle tickle tickle” over and over again.  it’s so funny.  he cracks me up.  so i crawl over to him and start tickling him and he laughs hysterically.  then when i stop he sits up and shows me his belly button and says “belly button” i dont’ know why… i do know that belly button was one of the first things he said, and the first body part he ever identified (LOL).  he stopped saying it when he was around 2 yrs old, and just started again about a month or so ago.

All Secure

Friday, May 18th, 2007

Everytime we go out of town, I have a terrible fear as we approach home that it’s been broken into or burned down or some other horrible thing has happened. We don’t have Renter’s insurance, so we’d be S.O.L. if something happened. It’s a terrible thought. To lose things that are important or significant to us, or things that are expensive. The one place we lived in that had bars on the windows and doors is the only place I felt secure when we returned that our belongings would still be there when we got home. It’s definitely time to start looking into it. Travel insurance would be a good idea, as well, now that I really think about it.

Too long between paydays?

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

We’ve used Payday cash advance loan a number of times, for a number of reasons. Usually it was a matter of something came up urgently and we didn’t have the money to cover everything and couldn’t wait until we got paid. Once we got one before going out of town, to help give us a little extra “spending” cash while we were away. Actually, I thought the one for our vacation was brilliant. There are a lot of places you can get them in Denver, but as I recall we did it online. We had budgeted the money needed for the actual travel from the paycheck we’d just received, we simply budgeted the spending money from the next paycheck and used a Payday cash advance loan to do so.

photo of the week

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

roseleaves1roseleaves2two photos this week, essentially of the same thing, and i couldn’t decide which one i wanted to post. so both it is.  they’re essentially taken of the same thing.  one with flash, one without, and a slightly different angle on each.  what can i say, i’ve alwys loved the way the leaves of a rosebush look.  especially when they’ve stil got that reddish tint on them.  they’re still lovely when they go all green, but there’s nothing quite like the way they look with the red.  so pretty, so festive.  the rose bushes have no buds yet, probably because of all the late snow we had… but they will soon i have no doubt.  when they do, perhaps a picture or two of the roses will be used for the photo of the week ;)

You go

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

There are a million reasons to make sure to have a good calling card with you at all times. There’s nothing quite like having vehicle trouble while traveling, and not having any way to call for help. Cell phones are nice, but add roaming fees and it’s just not economically sound to use your cell to call around for towing and service from 100 miles outside of your calling zone. I was in just that situation once several years ago. We ended up running up an incredible cell phone bill (in excess of $300 in roaming charges) trying to find someone who could do the work on our van. To add insult to injury, before we were able to get it taken care of the cell phone battery died! A calling card would have been a life saver. Pingo offers International rechargeable phone cards. Their rates are outstanding and there are no hidden fees. You can even receive up to 4 hours of international calls free just for signing up! I know a US Soldier on a hardship tour in Korea that one of these would be a perfect Father’s Day Gift for. Pingo is the best prepaid calling card provider I’ve found.

the last unicorn

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

file this under movies that are about equal to the books they’re based on.

the last unicorn, that is. it’s been one of my favorite movies since i was a kid. i only learned about a year ago that it was based on a book… which i was able to read this week. it was offered as a bookring on bookcrossing. there were a few differences between the book and movie, but nothing tremendously story altering. i actually think the movie was about equal to the book, honestly.

Looking Ahead

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

I tango, uTango, we all tango! Ever sit down and contemplate the future? Not the next year or two, the post 60-yrs old future, retirement. Since social security isn’t a guarantee these days, and most of the people I know who are my age haven’t put anything towards retirement yet, we’re looking at a grim future. Senior years spent working part time as a greeter at Wal-Mart to make ends meet. And what happens if we’re too sick to do even that? Or simply too frail? Doesn’t sound very golden, does it? I think that the utango rewards program is a very interesting answer to that problem. Rewarding loyalty with earnings towards retirement (up to $1 Million) and offering an annual cash back reward of up to $200. There’s no cost to join the program, and all you have to do to earn is buy the normal, everyday items that you would usually purchase online through the website. They have almost 300 popular online stores that you can buy from to earn Tango Bucks (points). I’ve already signed up, myself since my long-term future is even less certain than my immediate future. Earning retirement funds through the utango rewards program will hopefully make up for the fact that I haven’t been working or earning anything towards my future for almost 5 years.
