isn’t that always the way…

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

I have a deposit to make at the bank, so I can pay some bills that are due Monday and Tuesday.? I don’t have the money to take a cab to the bank and I have no idea when I’m going to be able to get a ride.? Fabulous, no?? I could mail it priority, I suppose.? If I put it in a blue mailbox on Sunday sometime they should have it Monday.? Of course the last deposit I mailed to the bank took 4 weeks just for it to show that it had been received, which sucked.

Gage is on his 3rd watching of A New Hope today.? He’s insistent.? As a matter of fact, he’ll take anything and everything away from me until I put it in.? He even took a raw chicken breast I was seasoning away from me.? It was fun chasing him, catching him, retrieving what will be my dinner and washing the hell out of his hands.? No really, all kinds of fun.? I’m just glad he didn’t take it outside and throw it.? Not only would that not be tasty, it would have been difficult to keep Tiger from eating it.

hiding rosedark roseyellow rose

roseI put several of the photos of roses that I took this summer on items at cafepress.com if anyone’s interested. The photos in this post are among the ones I used.? They’re on notecards, greeting cards (blank inside) a journal… it’s a shame they don’t have an address book.? I think most of these pictures would be very pretty on an address book.? So if you’re interested, check them out: http://www.cafepress.com/wiccania

on higher education…

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

In addition to the job search, I’ve been looking into different programs for getting some kind of job training in a specified field, etc.? What I need is a grant or some kind of financial aid that helps with living expenses as well as tuition.? I haven’t really found any information on anything like that online.? I’d also have to find a school and pick a field of study, of course.? But I’d like to have some idea of the financial aid options before doing something like that.? I even looked into the student loans they keep advertising (like astrive), but I don’t think I qualify — I think you have to be a traditional student to get those.? At least that’s what I’ve gotten from the information I’ve found.? I’m gonna keep looking though.

Doggy Pampering

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

I have to admit that I’ve never been a huge fan of dogs in clothing. It always seemed a little bizarre to me, and the dogs so often looked more embarrassed than cute. But then, I’d never seen any of the designer dog clothing from TheGildedPaw.com before, either. Some of the stuff they have on the site is really quite cute. And after taking Tiger for a number of walks last winter and him shivering the whole way (but incredibly eager to keep going as long as he could), I considered the idea of a nice doggy coat for him. Nothing frilly or girly of course, Tiger’s a boy. It wouldn’t do to have him in pink ruffles. They’ve got some nice ones, including a camouflage polar fleece jacket that would be awfully cute. Alas, I think Tiger is too big for it. Of course, Lucky could use one. He’s also very cold in the winter time. They’re cute jackets, and functional. I’m still browsing, surely there’s a nice warm coat for my big dog to wear on winter walks.

books go on the floor

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Apparently.? Gage has decided that instead of being on the shelves in his bedroom, his books should be on the floor.? He pushes them off the shelves onto the floor.? It makes a tremendous thud.? Maybe that’s why he does it.? ? I’m gonna have to find a new place to store them.? Especially the ones that are a little older/worn and might fall apart if they get thudded to the floor much more.

I cleaned his room this morning after he left for school.? And within 10 minutes of being home from school he’s dumped the books on the floor and upturned the toybox.? So much for cleaning, lol.

He just handed me a video… “A New Hope”? Or, for people who aren’t a little obsessed or addicted, Star Wars.? Have you ever noticed that so many people refer to A New Hope as ‘Star Wars?’? ? Of course these days I guess more people call it Episode IV.? He seems to like this one over Empire and Jedi, actually.? Not bad.? I’m rather enjoying the fact that he’s into Star Wars.? Doubt that I’ll be showing him Episodes I – III anytime soon.? They just aren’t nearly as good as far as I’m concerned.? And Episode I just doesn’t seem worth the time it takes to watch it.

Astronomy fans…

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

I’m impressed with AstroMart.com. It’s looks like a great site for astronomy fans. I’m forwarding the link to my sister, because she’s a huge fan of astronomy. In addition to the assortment of articles on astronomy, the site has a forum and a place for astronomy ads. They’ve even got a section of reviews including telescope and binocular reviews, along with reviews on the accessories for them. There are ‘how tos’ for people who need a little help getting started. On the forum you can discuss just about anything you’d like, from getting help from more experienced sky viewers to astrophotography. You can even set up meetings with other would-be astronomers. In the classifieds you can find yourself a telescope or sell your old one (among other things), and then there are the articles. So many interesting articles. Just browsing through the site, I came across about a dozen that I plan on reading.

it’s a zoo…

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Gage loves to watch the game Zoo Tycoon run.? He found the disks for the game yesterday and kept asking me “please?”? So I installed it and he’s having fun watching a huge pen of Bengal Tigers run and play and all that jazz.? I’ve seen him clicking with the mouse, and I’ve tried showing him how things work.? Eventually, I have no doubt, he’ll be changing the terrain and adding animals.? But right now he’s enjoying just watching.? It’s cute.

Someday, a garden…

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

When I was a kid, we had a huge vegetable garden. It was full of all kinds of delicious veggies — spinach, tomatoes, peas, lima beans, potatoes, etc. There’s something about growing vegetables yourself that makes them extra tasty. So, I’d like very much to have a nice vegetable and herb garden. As a kid, I loved helping my mom make the plant labels that went at the end of each row, which is a tradition I’d carry on although I’d go for something more substantial than seed packets stapled to stakes. There are a lot of nice long-lasting labels for plants in the garden than paper these days. Plant labels would be especially good for helping to identify the various herbs that I’d like to grow. Since I’m not entirely familiar with how all of the ones I’d like to grow are. Come to think of it, I don’t think I could identify much besides tomatoes until the vegetables themselves started appearing so they’d be handy all over the garden.

no letters were harmed…

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

Gage just watched his Leap Letter Factory DVD.? I never noticed before, but at the end of the DVD it says “No letters were harmed in the making of this video.”? Which cracked me up.

I did a few more online applications yesterday.? King Soopers and Burger King.? Also got what is probably my 100th rejection from Alpine Access.? What can I say, I get rejected, I apply again. It’s an endless cycle.? Over and over again.? I guess it’s a good thing I don’t have any self confidence left to lose.

Gage is so cute.? Lately whenever there’s music, whether on the radio or if it’s from TV or a movie he plays with either the acoustic guitar (holds it and strums it in rhythm to the music) or the keyboard.? I’d say it’s a clear indication of interest.? I’d love for him to be able to learn to play one or both.

No letters were harmed in the making of this post.? LOL

It’s coming…

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

Black Friday, that is. The day when millions of holiday shoppers brave line, crowds and getting up incredibly early in order to get the best deal on their holiday must haves. I remember going out with my mom a couple of times and hating it, therefore I make it a point to avoid shopping on Black Friday. I do regret missing some of the deals though. I know my mom used to be able to make $50 stretch pretty far when she did Black Friday shopping. Now that technology has gotten into the picture, black friday 2007 doesn’t have to involve waiting in lines, fighting crowds or getting half trampled in someone’s mad dash for this years “must have” new toy. Now you can get an early look at what the sales are going to look like by visiting sites like Black-Friday.net — which will even email you when there are updates and new ads posted. Better still, they’re offering direct links to the products so you can take advantage of the sales on Black Friday without having to endure the crowds and lines, although getting in early would probably still be a good idea. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to do your Black Friday shopping in your pajamas with a nice hot cup of coffee?? Even if you prefer to go out and do the shopping at the brick and mortar stores, you can at least map out your plan of attack weeks in advance (as opposed to the usual days in advance).
