This is why I love Shark Week…

Monday, July 30th, 2007

in 1916, there were 5 shark attacks in New Jersey.  One of the many shark-related documentaries/specials airing this week is on that attack.  It’s on right now, as a matter of fact.  I lived in New Jersey for about 10 years.  When people ask where I’m from, New Jersey is the answer (unless people want the really complicated answer).  I never knew about this.  So I’m learning something new.

There was also a special on last night about the USS Indianapolis, which was on last night.  The story, which is pretty awful to begin with, was made all the more creepier by Richard Dreyfuss’ narration.  Something about his voice made it… very eerie.

I love shark week.  You learn so much.  I don’t fear sharks, I do however have a healthy respect for what they can do to a person.

Did you ever notice…

how many big stars you see if you watch cheesy old 80’s shows?  Remember the show “Monsters?”  I’m watching an episode right now with Steve Buscemi in it.  Tales from the Crypt is the same way.  I know I’ve seen Demi Moore in at least once episode, as well as Amanda Plummer (who was in the first episode I ever saw).  There’s no real point to the observation, it’s just interesting.  I’ve seen a number of well-known actors in episodes of Monsters and Tales from the Crypt.  I’m not sure about Friday the 13th The Series and Freddy’s Nightmares, though.  I don’t think they had many big stars in them.  Me and Mandy used to sit and watch these shows every Friday (or was it Saturday?) night.  We looked forward to them eagerly.

animaniacs stew

Monday, July 16th, 2007

so i have this animaniacs stew video.  gage loves it.  which is great, since i love it too, and i never get sick of watching it.  gage also loves playing with the animaniacs happy meal toys that i got when i was in high school.  right now he’s walking around imitating slappy squirrel, which is cracking me up like you wouldn’t believe!  i really need to get the animaniacs dvd that was released last year.

rock of love, part 2

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

ok, a nice intro to the show… bret pulls up to 25 women. he introduces himself to the ladies, then introduces big john. he heads inside to shower, tells big john to do his thing.

big john picks out five of the girls. now, while he’s picking these girls out, they’re showing the little “sidebar” comments from other girls lamenting that they weren’t picked for whatever special thing these girls were being picked for. the unpicked girls were sent inside. the picked girls were told that not everyone gets a backstage pass, and they’re dismissed. NICE. it wasn’t something that i expected to see happen, but when the other girls were lamenting about being left out of the ‘vip party or something’ i started thinking that big john was eliminating some ladies before they even got into the house.

one of them actually went to the door and begged big john to let her stay… and she succeeded. so at least she’s dedicated.

some of the girls were bitchy about not getting time while others were getting time. it was very flavor of love. bret trying to figure out how to communicate with all of these girls and trying to figure out what the fuck is up with some of them was really fuckin funny.

the girl who got back in got hammered and made an ass of herself… big john pulled her aside and reminded her that he told her not to make him regret letting her back in. needless to say she wasn’t one of the 15 that bret selected to stay at the end of the show. the girl called rodeo looks really familiar to me, i’m not sure why. all in all, the show was a good laugh.

rock of love, part 1

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

so the new version of “flavor of love” comes on tonight. only this time it’s rock of love and it’s bret michaels instead of flave. on one hand, i’m thinking that this is just so sad. i love bret, and he so doesn’t need to do something like this to find a girl. and frankly, just from the previews i doubt he’s gonna find “true love” during the course of the show. but hey, if he gets some publicity, has fun and gets his ‘ego’ stroked a little i guess it’s a successful show.

now, i watched flavor of love, i enjoyed it. the drama was just funny as hell. and seeing which girls released their inner whore assuming that it was an automatic ‘in’ *cough*newyork*cough* was highly amusing. somehow i think that rock of love is going to be more drama packed and skankier — which i think will make it more amusing than flavor of love.
