Bret Michaels

the lead singer of one of my favorite bands of all time, was apparently admitted to the hospital Thursday night due to a massive brain hemorage.  I did find a report that says he’s now stable, awake and upbeat.  But damn was it a shock to hear that.  He’s always meant a lot to me.  The times I’ve talked to him he’s been warm and considerate.  The kind of guy who makes time for his fans no matter how busy he is or how tight his schedule is.  He’s a really good guy.  I’m praying that everything turns out well for him.

Great Times…

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

So, last week at the Preston & Steve blood drive, Sisser acquired 2 tickets to the Poison/Def Leppard show.  Generous and loving that she is, Sisser took me to the show last night and damn was it awesome.  God I love seeing Poison live.  Even on an “off” night they’re damn good (last night was an “on” night, but I’ve seen a couple of “off” nights in the past).  I’ve seen Poison several times since ‘99 and loved every single show.  But I’d never seen Def Leppard.  I gotta say that they really rocked it out.  It was awesome.  I only wish they’d played Foolin.  That’s the only song that I really wanted to hear live that I didn’t get to hear.  They encored with Rock of Ages, which was awesome.

Poison’s set list was a little changed from past set lists.  I was very happy to finally hear them play a song I’ve been waiting over 20 years to hear live… and since I know that there are gonna be some Poison fans out there looking for it, I made note of the set list during the show:

  • Let me go to the Show
  • I Want Action
  • Ride The Wind
  • I Won’t Forget You
  • Your Mama Don’t Dance
  • CC’s Solo
  • Fallen Angel
  • Unskinny Bop
  • Rikki’s Solo
  • Every Rose
  • Talk Dirty to Me
  • Bret says goodnight, tells NJ/Philly we rock and  promises he’ll never play Broadway again *giggle*
  • Encore: Nothing But a Good Time

The tickets we had were lawn seats, so I’m afraid I don’t have any pictures to post.  Sucks muchly.  But it was a great time.  I do love lawn seats though, I have to say.  As much as I enjoy seeing it all up close and feeling the energy just drip off the stage… the people watching on the lawn is awesome.  Not only that, you don’t have to put up with that being crushed feeling.  It’s also ideal when you’ve decided to take your child to a concert to sit on the lawn.  No, I didn’t take Gage.  Sisser did take her daughter to her first concert.  She even made her a t-shirt that says “I was born in 2005 and I love Poison.”  That little girl rocked out all night.  She was all smiles… dancing, singing along and jumping up and down in her excitement.

It was an awesome evening.

music has always been a huge part of my life… it’s one of my greatest passions, singing has always been one of my fondest dreams… i’ve been thinking a lot lately about favorite singers… for whatever reason.

  • rogue (cruxshadows) — there’s something about his voice that i have loved since the first time i heard marilyn my bitterness. there’s just something about it that moves me.
  • sebastian bach (skid row) — he’s got one of the most powerful voices from his genre… it’s always given me chills and excited me.
  • meatloaf — i love the theatrical power of his voice. i always have.
  • pat benatar — love the raw power of her voice.
  • martina mcbride — she’s country music’s pat benatar
  • bret michaels (poison) — he doesn’t have an incredibly astonishing voice… but something about the way he sings has always appealed to me.
  • prince — the best for last… his voice is the epitome of sexy. it can be moving, passionate, playful, lustful. i’m not sure any artist has ever been able to create so many different moods with just the power of his voice.

woody and i have talked for years about doing this acoustic thing… guitar and vocals… i mentioned it recently, that we could do that if he can’t find a new gig.  he seemed receptive to the idea.  i’d love it, myself.

takin a break…

Monday, April 30th, 2007

cleaning the kitchen. full scrubdown kind of cleaning. not that it’s in bad shape or anything, it’s just tedious. i should put on some music when i get back to it. i’ve been listening to the rocky horror show soundtrack a lot lately. i’d love to be in a production of it someday. the song once in awhile never fails to make me cry…

Once in a while she don’t want to call you
Speaking on the telephone
And once in your life she won’t want to know you
You look around, the one you found she is gone

And that’s all the time that it takes
For a heart to turn to stone
The sweeter the wine the harder to make the break
You hear something about someone you thought you’d known

So baby don’t cry like there’s no tomorrow
After the night there’s brand new day
And there’ll be no pain and no more sorrow
So wash your face and phone my place, it’ll be okay.

And that’s all the time that it takes
For a heart to beat again
So give me a sign that a lover makes
You look around, the one you found is back again…

there’s a beeping sound. i keep hearing it. dunno what the fuck it is but it’s irritating me. i’ll have to go looking for it in a bit

went grocery shopping last night. it was good. fun. i love to grocery shop, especially w/ woody. he makes me laugh, and it’s always a good time. i think a big part of that is because we share a passion for cooking and food. there are times when we’re discussing cooking, recipes, etc… and we’re so in synch, we bounce ideas off of each other and come up with something phenomenal and delicious.

it’s hard for me…
to say the things…
i wanna say sometimes.
there’s no one here…
just you and me…
this broken old street light.
lock the doors…
leave the world outside…
all i’ve got…
to give to you…
is these five words when i…
thank you, for loving me.
for being my eyes…
when i couldn’t see.
for parting my lips…
when i couldn’t breathe…
thank you, for loving me.

i never knew…
i had a dream…
until that dream was you.
when i look…
into those eyes…
the sky’s a different blue.
cross my heart…
i’ll wear no disguise.
if i tried you’d make-believe…
that you believed my lies.
thank you, for loving me.
for being my eyes…
when i couldn’t see.
for parting my lips…
when i couldn’t breathe…
thank you, for loving me.

you pick me up when i fall down..
you ring the bell before they count me out, and…
if i were drowning you would part the sea…
and risk your own life to rescue me.
yea yea yea yea yea

lock the doors…
leave the world outside…
all i’ve got…
to give to you…
is these five words when i…
thank you, for loving me.
for being my eyes…
when i couldn’t see.
for parting my lips…
when i couldn’t breathe…
thank you, for loving me.

it was running thru my head all morning.  i had to post it.

woody sent me this from blabbermouth.net

Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of AEROSMITH, Roger Daltrey of THE WHO, Robert Plant of LED ZEPPELIN, Tommy Lee and Vince Neil of MÖTLEY CRÜE, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of KISS, Rob Halford of JUDAS PRIEST, Ronnie James Dio, and Dee Snider of TWISTED SISTER are among the classic rock legends featured in the first 30-second public service announcement that will be launched on April 1 by VH1 Classic as part of its first-ever pro-social initiative geared towards raising awareness about autism. The announcement of the campaign’s launch was made today (March 13) to cable programmers and affiliates at a luncheon during Forum 2007, the Cable Television Public Affairs Association’s annual conference.

Autism is a complex neurobiological disorder that is the fastest growing developmental disability in the United States, affecting one in every 150 children born today. The cause of autism is still unknown and a cure does not exist.

“Autism is such a devastating disorder for so many families, and its rate of prevalence is increasing at an alarming rate,” said Tom Calderone, Executive Vice President and General Manager, VH1. “VH1 Classic has dedicated itself to making an impact on autism because many of our viewers are parents who are now dealing with this issue. We’ve also found over the years that this disorder has touched the lives of many of the artists and musicians that we work with at VH1 Classic.”

“Rock Autism” will use the influence of VH1 Classic and its connections with classic rock artists to make a measurable impact in this field by bringing awareness to the facts about autism, and by raising funds for autism organizations.

The campaign will feature both on and off-air components, including public service announcements, VH1 Classic news breaks, and on-air fundraising stunts. The April launch will also include “Pay to Play,” a fundraiser where viewers can go online and make a donation in exchange for VH1 Classic playing their favorite classic video. Proceeds from this element will go to The Cure Autism Now Foundation. VH1 Classic previously used “Pay to Play” as a fundraiser after Hurricane Katrina to raise funds for Mercy Corps, an international humanitarian relief organization. This partnership with Mercy Corps was VH1 Classic’s first public affairs effort and successfully raised over $150,000 for hurricane relief.

In addition, a website will be created at www.rockautism.vh1classic.com where viewers can access information on autism, link to autism organizations, and learn about upcoming fundraising events and auctions in conjunction with the initiative.

very nice :)
